Volunteer!

Save A Friend P.R. (SAFPR) is looking for more volunteers as our organization continues to grow! Your "pay" is joy of seeing homeless neglected animals transform into happy loved pets.  We need your computer skills, help with adoption and foster coordination, your fundraising skills,  more Flight Angels and help at the Luquillo Shelter.  It does not matter where you are located; on or off island. All volunteers are welcome.

Here’s what we need help with:

1. Computer/Tech help with reformatting and organizing our application platform, data collection, newsletters
2. Web design to improve our website accessibility,
3. Adoption Coordinators who can help facilitate adoptions and foster homes
4. Ground Transportation to meet animals at airport & move them to their next destination
5. Fundraising Lead/Consultant(s): Transportation fund for flying animals off island, a future construction project, help with consent-opt-in and email marketing strategies
   
6. Grant Writing/Consultant: research and preparation  
7. Office Adminstration including data entry.

Flight Angels are INCREDIBLY important when it comes to helping rescues reach their forever homes. A Flight Angel is anyone visiting the island who is willing to take a small dog or cat back to the states with them as a carry on. We provide all the supplies, fees, and booking required to bring the pet on a plane.  Most airlines allow pets to fly in the cabin.  

A SAFPR representative will meet to at the departing airport with the pet, help with check-in and stand by until the Flight Angel has completed security clearance. SAFPR connects the Flight Angel with either the adopter or an adoption coordinator who will meet the Flight Angel at the arrival airport and receive the pet. This is the safest way to get small pets off the island.

SAFPR, in conjunction with other local rescue organizations, provides training at and tours of the Luquillo Shelter.  Included in these tours we teach; responsible pet ownership, animal care and safety, bite prevention, and the importance of spaying and neutering. Through our animal adoptions and foster homes we train pet caregivers on the importance of quality diet, safe treats, pet training and socialization.
